
Earlier this week, Chad Smith and Sabian announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer reportedly no longer plays Sabian cymbals. Sparking rumors as to which brand Chad would choose for his new setup.
Now the rumors have been confirmed by Paiste directly via a post on his Instagram profile, officially welcoming Chad Smith to the Swiss cymbal maker’s “Family” as an endorsement.
“Paiste is deeply honored to announce that Chad Smith, prominent drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has joined the Paiste family of musicians.” read the statement.
“Chad’s set will initially consist primarily of 2002 Series models, with additional Signature Series and PST X cymbals. The final cymbal set and other details will be announced later this month. Thank you and welcome to family, Chad!”
Sabian’s move marks the end of Chad’s 35-year service with the brand, and he thanked Sabian when announcing his departure, saying he would be “eternally grateful” that they took a chance on it.” a scruffy kid from Detroit all those years ago.”
The announcement will come as no surprise to many, after outings with Paiste cymbals in the Chad setup, most recently when the RHCP headlined the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
Chad took the opportunity to pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins, giving a speech on the microphone after the band’s set, while Taylor’s wife, Alison Hawkins and Dave Grohl alongside other members of Foo Fighters watched from the side of the stage. .
Meanwhile, RHCP bassist Flea recently opened up about the rhythm section’s relationship outside of the band, saying the two don’t hang out together and “talk while playing.”
