Actress Kim Cattrall has two sides to her acting career, but Porky’s is the movie that really changed everything. It certainly allowed the world to see the actor in a totally different light than he had before. However, this included the film industry itself. Cattrall explained why Porky’s led to Michelle Pfeiffer taking all the award-winning roles she wanted.
‘Porky’s’ star Kim Cattrall has had two very different acting careers
The Howard Stern Show brought Cattrall onto the show, where they discussed Porky’s. Host Howard Stern asked the actor if she’s a sexual person, given her more sensual roles in film and TV.
“No, I had made a film called Naked girls live. I think from an early age, movies like Porky’s and police academy and Model, for me as an actress, where I really live is in theater,” Cattrall said. “But, you can’t make a living in the theater. So if you look at my resume, it’s like two different actresses.
Cattral continues: “We are like this theatrical career, which is very classic. The other is like those crazy movies I used to make. I was actually paying my rent. I’m a blue collar girl, you know? I didn’t want to go back to serving as a waitress and throwing hash. I wanted to continue even in a movie that I felt, ‘Well, that’s not exactly what I want to do, but it’s going to pay my rent for the next 6 months.’ Who, Porky’s done, absolutely.

Cattrall told Stern all about how she first arrived in Porky’s. Her previous work took her into sex comedy, but she wasn’t ready for what that project would do for the rest of her career. Despite Cattrall’s agents warning her against it, she went anyway.
“Bob Clark took me to lunch, and I was done Tribute with him and Oscar-nominated Jack Lemmon,” Cattrall recalled. “Then he said, ‘I have this little movie, which is going to change the way people perceive you. I went, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. Alright, how so?’ He sent it to me and all my agents said, ‘You can’t do this movie.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I can’t do this movie, but I can’t pay my rent either.’ »
Cattrall continued, “I thought, ‘This movie will do well and it’ll probably do drive-ins. I remember driving my car down Sunset Boulevard. I was living very badly in Los Angeles at the time. Alone, depressed, and I stumbled across this huge creepy mother of mine poster Porky’s and the first name was my name. I was like (screams). “
Many people have told Catrall that Porky’s would be the end of his career. They saw it as a “brotherhood movie” and called it “dumb”. Stern asked if this prevented him from finding work afterwards.
“No,” Cattrall replied. “It was easy to find work as Porky’s. To like police academy because you’re associated with success, so you keep going on that track and that other track you’re on with movies like Tribute and ticket to paradisewhere you’re nominated for awards and you’re going in that direction.
Cattrall concluded, “Suddenly Michelle Pfeiffer is taking on all of these roles. I can’t go near them because I’ve been sexualized that way.
The actor chained the “sexualized” roles with “Sex and the City”
Cattrall continued to win sex roles after Porky’s. She would eventually land one of the most iconic roles in premium television history – Samantha Jones on HBO sex and the city. The character is the most sexual of the bunch, earning a lot of love from fans around the world.
The actor would eventually return for the big screen sex and the city adventures, but she refused to bring the character back to life moving forward. Nevertheless, the rest of the team reunited for the TV revival titled And just like that.
