The abrupt departure of team president Dan Ventrelle, announced by the team in a 17 word statement on Friday, was followed by a much more detailed statement from Ventrelle. And Ventrelle has brought charges that will most likely lead to the league ordering another “independent” investigation by barely independent outside counsel Mary Jo White.

Via Mick Akers of Las Vegas Review-Journalbelly made strong allegations in his own commentary on the situation.

“Today Mark Davis terminated my employment as president of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Ventrelle said. “I have dedicated nearly 18 years of my life to the success of the Raiders as General Counsel and President. I take that responsibility very seriously, which is why the multiple written complaints from employees that Mark created a hostile work environment and engaged in other potential misconduct caused me great concern.

“When Mark was confronted with these issues he was dismissive and failed to show the level of justified concern. Given this, I informed the NFL of these issues and Mark’s unacceptable response.

“Shortly thereafter, I was terminated in retaliation for raising these concerns. I stand firm in my decision to elevate these issues to protect the organization and its employees. I remain committed to doing everything in my power to support the Raiders and the Las Vegas community which I now call home. I have retained the services of an attorney and will not comment further at this time.

If Ventrelle takes legal action, it is likely, if not certain, that the Raiders will attempt to force the case through the NFL’s rigged secret court, which will preclude Ventrelle’s claims or the facts underlying the allegations of misconduct to become public. Regardless of where it goes from here, Ventrelle’s statement implies several female employees complained about owner Mark Davis. Regardless of what happened to Ventrelle, the underlying allegations must be fully and properly explored.
